1. It can increase your blood pressure because there is an increased need for your body to repel or flush out harmful elements away from the heart. This makes your heart pump harder than usual and result in the increase of the pressure of the blood flow. If you notice, people with hypertension of high blood pressure are recommended to stop the intake of salt or salty foods. Table salt also increases your body’s retention of fluid, which is why too much use is being discouraged especially for people with gout, obesity and diabetes.

2. It can cause stroke. If your blood pressure is not controlled because of having too much salt in your diet, it can eventually result in stroke. Stroke happens when your blood vessels is either blocked or when it bursts and bleeds into your brain. If you want to avoid stroke, you also need to make sure that your blood pressure is managed and avoid salt all together.

3. It can make you obese. Table salt does not directly make you fat, however, it can always make you feel thirst. And when you keep on drinking fluids, salt has the property of retaining fluids in your body and that’s one thing that can make you fat.

4. It can cause kidney stones and kidney disease. Too much intake of table salt causes high blood pressure and this pressure can cause calcium to be excreted by your kidneys to your urine. If calcium builds up, kidney stones are formed.
