Reasons why tilapia is dangerous to your health.
Fish is a healthy food and great source of nutrients. Aside from fruit and vegetables, it is a recommended food in the food pyramid because of the vitamins and natural oils that we can get from it. But did you know that not all types of fish are good? There are sorts of fish which are actually risky and dangerous if we ingest it.
According to Wikipedia, “tilapia is the common name for nearly a hundred species of cichlid fish from the tilapiine cichlid tribe. Tilapia is mainly freshwater fish inhabiting shallow streams, ponds, rivers and lakes and less commonly found living in brackish water.” But then because of innovation, this type of fish is now being bred on farms and stand as a source of living, especially in rural areas. As a result, the natural habitat and food of the tilapia become different from what it should be. There are farms that use artificial feeds which make it very harmful for people to consume them. Logically, if you eat a fish that is fed with chemicals, you may also ingest these chemicals and may lead to serious health problems.
Here are a few reasons why you should not eat tilapia grown in the farms:
- Aside from artificial feeds and pellets, there are farms that use pesticides which may cause asthma, health related diseases, and certain types of cancer.
- Farm-raised tilapias have been found to contain increased levels of dioxin which is very dangerous to human beings and may even cause fatal illnesses.
- They have more Omega 6 that Omega 3 oil, which is a risky type of essential oil to the human body.
- There are also farms that feed their tilapias with chicken poop, apart from artificial pellets. Well, that is really nauseating, right?
If you still can’t get away from this type of fish, the key to enjoy and maximize the health nutrients is to know your supplier more. Make sure that they grow their tilapias in a natural way. Also, you need to be assured that they prioritize the health of their customers over cost and profit.
