Having too much of the hot summer? Well, you bet you’re not alone! Many people have surely been complaining about the intense heat and humidity lately and some of us just wish we can leave work behind to go out and enjoy a swim in the beach or a cool swimming pool.

But alas, many of us simply couldn’t afford that luxury as often as we want. For the most part, we have to stay at home and make the most of what we have – namely using our electric fans and drinking ice cold water or soft drinks to beat the heat.

Now the question is this: Is it really possible to keep your cool without spending a fortune on the electric bill?

The short answer to that, of course, is a resounding “yes”. Read on as we share with you SmartParenting’s surefire tips for staying cool this summer even without an air conditioner!

  1. Put cotton sheets in the fridge 30 minutes before sleeping.

At least 30 minutes before hitting the bed, put your cotton sheets in a Ziploc and place it in the fridge. You’d be amazed how this simple trick can help you enjoy a cool sheet before dozing off.

  1. Hang a wet towel in front of your window.

This might sound surprising for some but, yes, hanging a wet towel (or sheet) in front of your window can help decrease the warm temperature a bit.

  1. Apply ice packs (or use an ice cube) on your pulse points.

Another quick idea is to use an ice pack or a single ice cube on your wrists, neck, elbows, ankles – your pulse points.

  1. Place an ice block in front of your electric fan.

To cool your room a bit, place an ice block in front of your fan. Replace it as necessary.

  1. Put your mattress on the floor.

Last but not the least, place your mattress on the floor and sleep there. You’ll be able to sleep better when you do this.
